39! this one goes out to @beltaguise, who suggested through patreon that I touch on a homebrew analogue for tieflings!
so tieflings are something I’ve kinda of been picking at for this homebrew concept–I drew a masked one a bit back but didn’t delve too far into it.
The way I figure, tieflings (fiendblood/fiendget in this setting) are WAY more randomized here than in normal DnD/pathfinder. A very lucky few look like the traditional cute devil person, but it’s far more common for them to be some flavor of disgusting or monstrous instead. They are nearly all humanoid, though; in an odd adaptation of demonic shapeshifting ability, infants always mimic their parent’s base form…albeit very imperfectly. Usually it kinda looks like someone pulled apart a freakish monster into a pile of components and pieced it back together into a roughly humanoid silhouette.1stgen hybrids with demonic mothers will look like straight-up hellspawn with however many limbs and head that entails, but they still possess a strong (sometimes cripplingly so) capacity for empathy from their human blood. The classic tiefling look of just the red skin/horns/etc is rare and often the result of a lineage that’s married humans so much that they’re way watered down.
culturally, fiendget don’t always hide their demonic nature, but do often go out of their way to disguise aspects of their forms others would find upsetting. Masks, robes, and jewelry enchanted to offer a mirage effect are common. It’s considered a gesture of trust to allow non-family to see their true appearance. This dude up here is either practicing his magic alone or just doesn’t give a fuck about being his culture’s equivalent to a nudist
